Initial Brief:
Brandon Boyd, frontman of Incubus and an accomplished visual artist, approached me to create a unique, limited-edition Zodiac series for his art gallery and shop in Los Angeles. Known for his deep appreciation of symbolism, mysticism, and fine art, Brandon envisioned a collection that would merge astrological archetypes with a fresh, contemporary artistic perspective. The series needed to feel both timeless and personal—something that would resonate with art collectors and astrology enthusiasts alike.
Challenge:
The project required a delicate balance between honoring traditional Zodiac symbolism while introducing a unique, unexpected artistic interpretation. Each piece needed to stand alone as a compelling work of art while also forming a cohesive series when viewed together. Additionally, the limited-edition nature of the collection meant that every detail—composition, line work, color palette, and printing technique—had to be meticulously considered to ensure a collectible, gallery-worthy finish.

Creative Process:
From the outset, Brandon and I engaged in an ongoing dialogue, exchanging ideas about visual motifs, historical influences, and the emotional essence behind each astrological sign. We explored the connections between celestial movements, mythology, and human nature, aiming to weave these elements into each illustration in a way that felt both personal and universal.
Sketching out initial concepts, I experimented with blending organic textures, ethereal figures, and celestial geometry. Each design was infused with layered symbolism—hidden details that rewarded deeper engagement. As the series evolved, we worked closely to refine compositions, ensuring that the essence of each sign was captured in a way that felt authentic to both the Zodiac and my personal artistic style.
Execution:
Once the final designs were solidified, we selected premium materials and printing techniques that would elevate the series to fine art status. The prints were produced in a highly limited run, each numbered and signed, ensuring exclusivity for collectors. The series debuted in Brandon’s LA gallery, presented in a space that mirrored the dreamlike, mystical nature of the artwork itself.
Outcome:
The Zodiac series was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, attracting both longtime fans of Brandon’s work and collectors who were drawn to the celestial themes. The exhibition not only showcased the depth of our creative collaboration but also reinforced the timeless connection between music, art, and the cosmos. The limited-edition nature of the series made each piece a treasured artifact, further cementing the collection as a standout moment in my portfolio.
